Another girl surrounded by yellow. She keeps making me think "Polynesian" but that wasn't my intention.

Day 059
This is roughly what I imagined as a typical entry for this blog... a quick sketch. There I was out in Joshua Tree at the local Japanese restaurant "Yokozuna", with my "Dinner Special, selection A" which includes soup, tempura, teriyaki beef, salad, california roll and a lil' block o' red jello in a ruffled white cupcake paper. An old man and his wife came and sat next to me, but on the other side of a wooden "lattice".
They had a whole routine. They sat. He opened up his newspaper. She sat quiet. They ordered. He read his newspaper. She sat quiet. They ate and talked a bit. He read his newspaper. Got bill. Discussed bill (I think- they spoke a foreign language that wasn't Japanese). Paid bill. Left.

Day 058
The famous Brazilian horror-film icon "Coffin Joe", or as they say in MacArthur Park, "Zé do Caixão".

A Little Aside
A frequent and kind visitor of this blog has asked that the artist interpret himself. Using the power of Google Image and a Photoshop filter, his wish is herefore granted. While we may quibble that I didn't actually "draw" this piece, no one can argue that my very soul is not embedded, represented and glorified within this image.

Day 057
I always want to expand my sexy-girl drawing knowledge. One dude that has a striking visual style is comic artist Daniél Torres. This is basically a mixed-up copy of a few panels of his work from an old Heavy Metal magazine.
Note also the smudge marks resulting from the fact that I'm never patient enough to wait for the dang ink to dry before running an eraser over it. The streaks from the lips piss me off tho.

Day 056
I've been meaning to draw some images from this small Sears catalogue for a long time. Granted, the images are already drawings, but it's still fun to redraw drawings. By the way, there are some strange items in that catalogue, like "Electric Belts" with scrotum attachments that send electricity through your system and cure all kinds of ailments and defects.
Besides the old-timey stuff in the catalogue, I like the various typography treatments, which you can see echoed in the work of Chris Ware's Acme Novelty Library.

Blues man Son House. Check out his song "Death Letter Blues" to get a feel for his powerful style...

Day 047
Drawn at The Coffee Fix of North Hollywood. Some dude said, "Hey, that's cool man"! And with a surge of pride still coursing through my veins, I came home and added a little color with Photoshop. I wonder if he'd think it's less cool or more cool.

I couldn't help but do an altered version of her in Photoshop so that she stands straighter (see below).

Day 040
Not that it means anything or that it diminishes the suckiness, but I did draw this as white on black rather than reversing a black/gray-on-white drawing in a "jazz-it-up" attempt.
