Day 031

Celebrating my one-month mark at this venture. Congratulations to myself. Yayyyyyyy.

Day 030

Birdy girl. Drawn and inked on paper then shaded in Photoshop.

Day 029

Stan Laurel roughed out in Flash.

Day 028

Just a happy girl.

Day 027

Monster time! I've always liked (though this does not resemble them) the Ed "Big Daddy Roth" school of monsterology. Remember those trading cards? And those foul people you'd see on the Wacky Packs cards? Again, this guy doesn't look like them, so why am I even mentioning it?

Day 026

Working from the memory of the previous day's sketch of Sandra to try a more stylized approach.

Day 025

A frustrating attempt at my good pal Sandra Lee. I sort of got her but missed the mark just enough. I'm just glad that, unlike two other aborted attempts, I had something I felt I could post.

Day 024

I saw this funny baby on the internet at the Smithsonian or Getty images... I think that it was a very old picture.

January 24, 2008

Day 023

A rough attempt at sketching my niece Annalisa. I used Painter to do this and almost gave up at several points because I wasn't liking what was happening. Hey, it's a sketch. And I think it looks pretty decent after all... or else Annalisa would kill me!

Day 022

I was getting sleepy as I did this guy. Just went straight in with the pen, drawing random lines, then knitting an image from the yarns. Sounds almost poetic.

January 22, 2008

Day 021

My good pal Jimboni of the beautiful http://jimfeeley.blogspot.com/ art blog had a link to his favorite art blog, which in turn got into my head and spilled out two days later as this. In other words, this was influenced by what I had seen at that other blog. The color treatment below, however, was influenced by nothin' but net. Now get out there and win one for the team!

Day 020

I've been reading the Harvey Comics Classics Vol. 1 of CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST. I've always loved the designs of Casper and Hot Stuff, especially when drawn by some of the better artists. So here's to Casper, the big-headed white kid!

Day 019

When you let a friend pick the subject matter for your next drawing, you get "satyr".

Day 018

Batman does return again and agian in my drawing life. Maybe I should one day learn what his costume really looks like. This of course is the weather-beaten homeless version of Batman, uselessly hanging his over-long left arm out to the side, just like the dude way down on day 004 or whatever.

Day 016

Day 015

Day 014

Another sketch suffering from features placed incorrectly on the head. I always find satisfaction out of such errors, but they should be avoided in polite company. This was done while looking at a small photograph some 8 feet away.

Day 012B

Things can go awry when you draw directly with the brush pen. Poor Chris Bennett suffers here from features that are not properly placed on the head. Still, I feel like it kind of captures his likeness, and I even enjoy the fact that his eyes and nose and mouth are kind of pulled to the left... it makes the whole thing less boring.

Day 012A

This looks like the feral cousin of my pal Caleb, rather than the man himself. His left arm looks almost inoperative... the way he cups the bottle rather than firmly holding it is a sad comment on the state of mankind.

The fat Pug known as oliver. He is a giant chunk of meat.

Day 004

First time messing around with my new Cintiq (12" version). When I'm done putting a portfolio together, I'm gonna hook up that bastard again and get good at it.

Day 003

003, originally uploaded by beanrobot.

This dude... because I was listening to the audio book Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, which is set in the late 1800's in England and France... I think that's why I was in a britches mood.

Day 002

002

I adapted a pose of some dancer lady for this pencil sketch... I wish I had shaded in her ear area. I drew and erased her face (not based on the afore-mentioned dancer) several times , but it doesn't seem like her features are particularly interesting.

Day 001

The inaugural drawing of 2008. A boxing brute, stemming perhaps from my mindset that in able to do my 365 drawings, I'll have to be disciplined and conditioned like a boxer. Kind of makes drawing/sketching sound sooooo hard. Wahhhhh. I used a Pentel refillable brush pen I got from Little Tokyo (while on jury duty). I think it only costed about $13. Did I mention that the jury DID NOT rule in favor of the "trip and stumble" plaintiff?
